Part-time employees in a "Coded" position are eligible to enroll in the County's health benefits. The premium cost is pro-rated according to the number of hours hours worked during a pay period.  Please contact your Department Service Center for more information regarding premium rates. ​You can contact your Department Service Center​ to enroll and make changes within 30 days of a qualifying event. Examples of a qualifying event include: birth, death, marriage, divorce, dissolution of a domestic partnership, a dependent losing eligibility, or a change in your or your spouse's job that affects benefits eligibility. If you have not experienced a qualifying event, your opportunity to make changes is during Open Enrollment, which occurs every year during the month of May. Active employees are generally not allowed to withdraw money from their deferred compensation account. The plan does allow employees to take up to two loans from their account. In the case of a catastrophic financial event, the plan allows for an emergency withdrawal from your account. Emergency loans are governed by IRS regulations. There are options available to you should you move out of the service area of a particular plan. Please review slides 10-14 of the Retiree Benefits Overview PowerPoint​​. If you are moving outside of California, you will need to select a new option for your healthcare plan. Contact Social Security Administration to get information about enrolling in Medicare. In order to maintain your retiree medical coverage, you must enroll in Medicare Parts A & B when you turn age 65 and are eligible for Medicare. The County offers group health plan coverage to eligible retirees. An eligible retiree is one who meets the required years of continuous service with the County and retires from the County and CalPERS at the same time. If you require further assistance, please enter your inquiry below.​

The County offers an annual Open Enrollment Period for Retiree Medical Benefits in the month of May. Per the MOA between CEMA and the County of Santa Clara, tuition reimbursement is offered. The Educational Reimbursement Program (ERP) is available to all coded (permanent) County of Santa Clara employees, including provisional and seasonal (extra help is not eligible). Reimbursement amounts are negotiated through individual bargaining units.​​​ Please review the CEMA contract for more information.
